Mission Impossible Actor Highlights How the Script Helps Tom Cruise and Director Christopher McQuarrie
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One star Simon Pegg has weighed in on the importance of scripts during filming. Pegg spoke not just in the context of the latest instalment, but also the entire franchise, and how Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie carry out the filming on set. McQuarrie has directed all of the Mission: Impossible movies since Rogue Nation alongside the lead actor Tom Cruise.
Simon Pegg on the role of script in Mission Impossible movies
Pegg shared his thoughts in an interview with Variety where he was quizzed if scripts are even involved on set when shooting Mission Impossible movies. Pegg mentioned that scripts are always there and that the scripts allow the director to have a rough idea to build upon. He added that the improvisation flows due to McQuarrie letting the actors and location influence the storytelling. Pegg also mentioned that the script allows that room for improvisation and that the director is not “not making it up as he goes along, by any means.” Here is what McQuarrie said:
Interestingly, Pegg’s comments come at a time when Hollywood is facing a series of production halts due to the writer’s strike which has now seen actors join the fold as well with both WGA and SAG-AFTRA protesting against Hollywood producers and studios.
