Mission: Impossible Star Simon Pegg Fears Tom Cruise’s Stunts ‘Might Go Wrong’

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One star Simon Pegg has admitted he worries about Tom Cruise when it comes to stunts.

During an interview with Deadline, Pegg explained why he fears for Cruise’s safety whenever he performs one of his big Mission: Impossible stunts.

“You know, I’m lucky because Benji just kind of stays behind the computer and he does his thing,” said Pegg. “Tom is jumping off cliffs on a motorbike he’s hanging his you know, hanging off trains – it’s genuinely dangerous stuff.”

Tom Cruise has become known in recent years for his daring stunt work, especially when it comes to the Mission: Impossible series.

The upcoming sequel, Dead Reckoning Part One, sees him barrelling off the edge of a cliff on a motorbike, and that’s only the beginning.

A car chase through the streets of Rome was filmed practically, with Cruise behind the wheel as Ethan Hunt. However, it’s not quite that simple, as Ethan has been handcuffed to Grace (played by Hayley Atwell), leaving Cruise to drive one-handed – for real.

“Tom driving, and drifting, one-handed through the streets of Rome – that was a day I’ll never forget,” said Atwell.

It’s not just the upcoming Mission: Impossible sequel that’s seen Cruise put his life on the line in the name of cinema – he’s done plenty of that in earlier installments, too.

He once famously clung to the outside of a plane for a stunt in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and even performed the infamous HALO jump in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

In fact, the entire series has long hinged on Cruise’s legendary stuntwork, with even the first Mission: Impossible film seeing the famed actor clinging to the front of a high-speed train.

“There’s always a sense that, you know, one day, something might go wrong, we might lose Tom, you know,” explained Pegg. “Anytime there’s a big stunt, we all have that sense of, you know, fear, but he always pulls it off.”
