Mortal Kombat 1 Is a Reboot and Not a Remake, Clarifies Co-Creator; System Requirements Out

Mortal Kombat 1 was recently announced with a new trailer, and fans have speculated that it is a remake of the original Mortal Kombat. Co-creator Ed Boon has put that thought to bed and revealed that Mortal Kombat 1 is actually a reboot of the franchise and not a remake. NetherRealm Studios has also revealed the Mortal Kombat 1 system requirements, indicating that you’ll need atleast 100GB of free space to install the fighting game.

Mortal Kombat series co-creator and NetherRealm Studios CCO Ed Boon was recently part of a quick “Kommunity Chat” about the game where he elaborated upon the name selection, as reported first by PCGamesN. Boon said, “Mortal Kombat 1 is the beginning of a universe. It is not a continuation of the Mortal Kombat 11 story so the characters have completely different roles in this new timeline and we really wanted to emphasize that with our title.”

It’s understandable why the studio made the extra effort of adding the number ahead of the title since there are already existing projects across games, movies and shows titled Mortal Kombat. Since this is a reboot of the franchise, the name also has to stand apart from everyhting delivered before this game.

“This is Mortal Kombat 1, it’s a brand new beginning, you’re going to be seeing these characters reintroduced with new roles, new relationships, and that’s the main catalyst for it,” added Boon.

Mortal Kombat 1 PC System Requirements

Mortal Kombat 1 PC system requirements have been revealed on the game’s Steam page. It states that players are required to have atleast 100GB free storage space on their PC to install the upcoming game. The studio has also listed that you need a minimum of 8GB RAM and atleast a Nvidia GTX 980, AMD RX 470, or Intel Arc A750 GPU to run the game.
