Tournament Bracket
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. The Mid-South Conference baseball opening round wrapped up on Saturday with Cumberlands and Cumberland punching their tickets to the MSC Baseball Tournament final site.
Second-seeded Cumberlands defeated No. 11 seed Tennessee Southern 8-5 and No. 10 seed Cumberland picked up a 5-4 victory over No. 3 seed Thomas More.
The MSC Baseball Tournament begins on Thursday May 5 at Bowling Green Ballpark. Action gets underway Thursday at 11 a.m. CT with No. 4 seed Bethel taking on No. 5 seed Campbellsville. The winner will face top-seeded Freed-Hardeman at 9 a.m. CT Friday. Thursday wraps up with No. 3 seed Georgetown taking sixth-seeded Cumberland at 2:30 p.m. CT. The winner will face No. 2 seed Cumberlands on Friday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
Friday will also feature two elimination games at 4 and 7:30 p.m. CT. The winner’s bracket final takes place on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT with the loser’s bracket semifinal taking place at 2 p.m. CT. The loser’s bracket final takes place on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. The championship game is scheduled for Noon CT on Sunday with the if-necessary to follow.
Cumberlands vs. Tennessee Southern
Cumberlands got on the board first in the first inning and added two more in the second to lead 3-0. Tennessee Southern then tied the game scoring two runs in the third and another run in the fourth. The Patriots retook the lead with two runs in the fifth inning. The Firehawks answered back in the sixth tying the game scoring two runs in the sixth. Cumberlands took an 8-5 lead scoring three runs in the seventh.
Thomas More vs. Cumberland
Thomas More struck first scoring two runs in the first innings. Cumberland took the lead in the second inning scoring three runs. The Phoenix increased their lead to 4-2 in the fourth inning. Cumberland added a run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. Thomas More added a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-4.
