Murray snubbed for Federer as Wimbledon ball boy rumbles fan
Day Two of Wimbledon was more or less a washout with only the matches on Centre Court and Court 1 finishing. But there were still plenty of funny moments that you might have missed…
Chardy’s wife gets the crowd going
Jeremy Chardy needed all the support he could get in the first set against Carlos Alcaraz. It was becoming a hard watch as the younger and fresher Spaniard ran him all over the grass, showcasing his beautiful array of shots and winning more or less every point.
At one point in the first set, Chardy’s first serve failed to reach the net in the air. He had been struggling with it all match, and even the beleaguered Frenchman could see the humour in his predicament.
But his wife, Susan, couldn’t watch her Husband go out like this in what was going to be his last-ever match. So, she got out of her seat, turned around to the crowd, and whipped them into a frenzy.
It didn’t bear any immediate results but the British crowd – who always love an underdog – got behind the 36-year-old and helped him claim a break and five games in the third set against the world No 1.
Ball boy catches out cheeky Wimbledon fan
During Katie Boulter’s match this morning, one Wimbledon fan thought she had snagged herself the perfect souvenier after a loose shot landed in her lap.
Cameras turned straight to the fan, who quickly tried to conceal the ball. Unfortunately for her, a ball boy had spotted her intentions and asked for it back.
She reluctantly obliged, pulling a humourous face and throwing it back.
Fan declares love for Federer over Murray
Andy Murray was given a lot of love on his return to Wimbledon as the Scot completely outclassed fellow Brit Ryan Peniston.
But it was Roger Federer who a fan declared his love for mid-match. Just as Murray was getting ready to serve, a fan screamed out: “I love you Roger,” who was a spectator in the Royal Box for the match.
Murray later joked that it was nice to see that Roger wasn’t cheering against him like the last time he was watching him play on Centre Court.
“It was amazing to have some royalty here but also some tennis royalty as well,” Murray said. “It’s amazing to have Roger here supporting the event. Last time I was on this court and he was watching was during the Olympics and he sat in Stan Wawrinka’s box and was supporting against me so it was nice to see [laughs] a couple of claps today after some good shots.”
Carlos rocks THAT hat again
Last week, Wimbledon tweeted a picture of Carlos Alcaraz rocking up to a press conference at the All England Club wearing a bucket hat with the caption: “We need to talk about Carlos Alcaraz’ bucket hat.”
It seems to have had the desired effect because it’s been a very hot subject with fans flocking to social media to show their love for Alcaraz’ bucket hat.
And fans will be glad to know he rocked it again on Tuesday after his first-round victory over Jeremy Chardy. So Wimbledon fans could be seeing a lot more of it as Alcaraz looks to go deep this year.
