Musk: Elon Musk on his new company, AI and being “pro China” – Times of India

In a rather subdued announcement, Elon Musk revealed that he has formed a new AI company called xAI. There was very little revealed by Musk about his company. However, in a Twitter Spaces conversation, Musk did shed some light on his plans about the company.
On his new company
According to a report by CNBC, Musk said that he wanted to grow AI in a “good way”. He said that if he had the opportunity to press pause on AI or “really advanced AI, digital superintelligence, I would.” He said that AI training should be done in a way where it is maximally curious. “I think a maximally curious AI, one that is just trying to sort of understand the universe is, I think, going to be pro-humanity,” Musk said. “From the standpoint that humanity is just much more interesting than not humanity.”
On regulating AI and morality
The Tesla CEO said that policy makers need to spend time to understand the technology. Only then, he said, there can be talk about oversight and that too should be in consultation with the industry. On the Twitter Spaces, Musk had a couple of members of US Congress and senators. Musk says that there will be a new form of AI or digital superintelligence, which will be way smarter than any human at anything. He sees that happening within the next give or six years.
On his equation with China
Tesla and Musk have made big investments in China and he said that he does have vested interests in the country. Musk admitted that he is indeed “pro China” and called the country “underrated.” He also said that the people of China are “awesome”. He further said that he believes China would collaborate with other countries on developing a framework to regulate AI globally.
