Nadella: Satya Nadella on why Microsoft is innovating in AI – Times of India
This development comes a day after Google announced Bard, its own ‘experimental conversational AI service’ – suggesting that the AI-powered future is here.
Now before the company went on to unveil the new Bing and Edge browser, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella gave a brief about why Microsoft is innovating in AI. He said that the company is pursuing the motive, “Can we use technology to overcome challenges that people and organisations and countries face?”
“What is it that we should do and what should we build? I think this technology is going to reshape pretty much every software category we know. We have seen three platform shifts that have shaped the web. The web was born on the PC and the server, and then it evolved with mobile and cloud, and now the question is: How is AI going to reshape the web?,” Nadella said.
AI is here to stay
Nadella said with innovation in AI, there is going to be an idea of having a copilot which will mediate every computer interaction. He added that there are two things that are emerging, and one of them is conversational intelligent agents.
“I think there are going to be things that we are going to have everywhere we go, all computer interaction is going to be mediated with an agent helping you. In fact, we are going to have this notion of a copilot that’s going to be there across every application canvas,” he said, adding that AI is going to reshape the largest software category on planet Earth, Search.
AI principles
Nadella also highlighted the responsibility that comes with innovating with AI – something that Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai also talked about in his blog post announcing Bard.
“Way back in 2016, we came out with the AI principles. Both Microsoft and our partners at OpenAI deeply care about this,” he said. Nadella noted that they want to create an “AI that’s more aligned with human values, more aligned with what our preferences are, both individually and as a society.”
New day in Search
For Nadella, launching Bing and Edge with AI capabilities is “a new day in Search, it’s a new paradigm for Search.”
“A race starts today in terms of what you can expect. We are going to move fast, and for us, every day, we want to bring out new things, and most importantly, we want to have a lot of fun innovating again in Search because it’s high time,” he added.
