Netflix Basic with ads subscription: Unsupported devices
According to a report by 9to5Google, the new less expensive Netflix plan will not support older Chromecast devices. Only the latest models, that come with Google TV will support the latest Netflix subscription tier.
The Basic, Standard, or Premium ad-free Netflix plans will be available for the older Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra devices. The Netflix support page also notes that phones and tablets need to run Android 7.0 or above for this plan.

This is Netflix’s lower priced ad-supported plan. Basic with Ads costs $6.99 a month US and is now available in several countries . The Basic with Ads plan be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US.
Apart from this, the support page also mentioned that the Basic with ads plan won’t support Apple TV devices as well (spotted by 9to5Mac). However, Netflix has said that the Apple TV issue will be fixed at a later date.
Netflix has not cited a specific reason for this change but the company might not be interested in updating its legacy Chromecast experience, the report adds. The last legacy Chromecast device was released by Google in 2018. Also, the devices that run Android TV OS use the original cast app instead of casting content directly from the Netflix app.
The new subscription tier is now available in markets like — the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, Brazil and others. It is available in the US at $6.99 (nearly Rs 575) per month. This Netflix subscription isn’t currently available in India and the company has not shared any details about the plan’s arrival in the country.
