Netflix: Emily in Paris Overtakes Wednesday as Top Series on Streaming Platform

Netflix has had back-to-back hits when it comes to series. From Squid Game to Stranger Things, the streaming platform has been successful in dominating today’s pop culture.

One such standout hit of 2022 was Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega. In just three weeks of release since November, it became the second-most watched English series on Netflix. However, the third season of Emily in Paris, which just came out on December 21, already overtook Wednesday for some time as the top series on the streaming platform.

According to FlixPatrol, which provides charts for streaming sites, Emily in Paris dominated the top TV shows chart on Netflix for the last week of the year. However, Wednesday already reclaimed its number one spot since December 31.

Wednesday tells the story of Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family, as she enters the mysterious and dangerous Nevermore Academy to solve a series of murder mysteries. On the other hand, Emily on Paris follows the journey of 29-year-old Emily, played by Lily Collins, as she moves to the city of love for her dream job at a marketing firm.

The success of Emily in Paris and Wednesday shows the landscape of streaming, which can change in an instant. Even though Wednesday is consistently popular right now, a new release by Netflix was able to overthrow it as the top series. But it appears the show does not have as much of a mainstream appeal as Wednesday to last long enough on the number one position. And the fact that it is the third season of a show as opposed to a new one likely contributes to that.
