Netflix Is Rolling Out Its Ad-Supported Tier Across Different Markets; Here Is the List of Shows You Won’t Be Able to Watch in This Plan

Netflix just rolled out their ad-supported tier in select countries. The selected countries include; Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US. This plan has been dubbed as Basic with Ads. It will include video quality upto 720p/HD and an average of 4-5 minutes of ads per hour. Netflix has been experimenting with cheaper mobile only plans for years to figure out a good balance.

At launch, users will be viewed 15-30 seconds ads, which will get longer with time. The move has been made possible in partnership with Microsoft and will cost the users $6.99 per month. However, there are some cons to subscribing to Basic with Ads. Players will use the capability to download content. Most importantly, a limited number of movies and TV shows won’t be available due to licensing restrictions for this tier.

DiscussingFilm has tweeted out a list of shows that won’t be included on Netflix’s ad-supported tier and has many users worried. This list consists of some of the most popular shows on the platform and some of them have featured in the top 10 list globally. These shows are also reasons for many users to subscribe to Netflix and losing out on them could turn out to be a deal breaker. Check out the list of shows that won’t be available on Netflix’s Basic with Ads tier below:

  • The Crown (Season 1 – 4 Weeks in Global Top 10)
  • Cobra Kai (Season 4 – 5 Weeks in Global Top 10)
  • Arrested Development
  • Breaking Bad
  • The Good Place
  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • House of Cards
  • How to Get Away With Murder
  • New Girl
  • Peaky Blinders (Season 6 – 5 Weeks in Global Top 10)

Many users are also wondering whether this ad-supported tier would make its way to India. At the moment we do not know, as this service is only available for select countries. On top of that we don’t know whether this plan will work in the Indian market as some of the most popular features of the streaming platform will not be available. Regardless, not having access to all the shows that Netflix has to offer will not be a valuable proposition for most.

As for the pricing part, Netflix Basic in the United States costs $9.99 per month, and it costs INR 199 in India. Seeing that the Netflix Basic with Ads tier saw almost a 30% decrease at $6.99 it can be assumed that Netflix Basic with Ads in India could cost around INR 139 which can also be pushed down to INR 99. In the end this is just our guess, we will know the actual price when it officially rolls out for Indian users.
