Netflix may have a “brand-new AAA PC game” under development – Times of India
Once a movie rental service, Netflix grew into an over-the-top streaming service, which now also has a few games under its umbrella. Now the streaming giant is reportedly working on a “brand-new AAA PC game,” as per job listings.
The streaming giant is looking for a game director, art director and technical director to work on a “brand-new AAA PC game” at the newly established Los Angeles Netflix Games Studio. There are other openings for producers, engineers and artists for the same project.
Not much is known about Netflix’s “brand-new AAA PC game,” but it seems to be a high-budget project considering that “AAA” usually translates to a relatively higher budget than other games, which are often regarded as “AA.”
Netflix’s high-budget PC game may be turned into a movie or series one day
These listings say that the project is “one of Netflix’s first generation of internally developed original games.” And the game could either be a first-person or third-person shooter built on the Unreal engine since the job requires experience with the tool. Further, the game director roped in will be responsible for creating a “world/characters/narrative that are worthy of a Netflix film/TV series.”
Netflix recently roped in Chacko Sonny of Blizzard to lead its upcoming studio in Southern California. Sonny overlooked the development of the original Overwatch and Overwatch 2.
Over the last year or so, Netflix has released quite a few mobile titles through its app and even had a tussle with Apple. There is no stopping, as the company is said to be working on some 55 titles for mobiles.
Netflix desires to go beyond mobiles. The streaming giant wants to leverage its expertise in “streaming” and have a cloud gaming platform, which could be tied into its video streaming service.
