Netflix’s Bioshock Adaptation To Be Directed by the Hunger Games Filmmaker
2K’s Bioshock franchise recently completed 15 years of existence, and while the developers didn’t surprise fans with a new title, we do have some news for fans who want to hear more about the series’ live-action adaptation.
The long-rumored film feature based on the iconic video game series seems to be picking up pace, as streaming platform Netflix looks to have found its director in Francis Lawrence. The 51-year-old is known for his work, which includes I Am Legend, Constantine and The Hunger Games film series.
Furthermore, Deadline has also reported that Lawrence will be working with a script penned by Michael Green of Logan and Blade Runner 2049 fame.
The report suggests that Lawrence’s skills at handling big-name IPs helped him get the job. Following his work with The Hunger Games series, where he directed the final three films of the franchise, the director has since returned to direct the series prequel titled ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ starring Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage and more.
Lawrence is currently filming The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and once he’s done shooting the film, he will move into pre-production for the Bioshock film.
The Bioshock film has been on the cards, ever since the first title came out back in 2007. For years, it never led up to anywhere until February 2022, when it was announced that Netflix would be working on the adaptation. Just like the video games, fans should except to see elements like free will come into question in a dystopian sci-fi world, and fans couldn’t be more excited for the adaptation to come to life sooner.
