Netflix’s Glass Onion Getting Rian Johnson’s Director’s Commentary
Rian Johnson will peel back the layers of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in a special director’s commentary coming to Netflix.
The official Glass Onion Twitter account uprooted the news and shared a poster advertising the extra feature. According to the post and its timings, the director’s commentary will be available to stream on Netflix from 10 am PT on Thursday, February 23.

Rian Johnson also shared the news with his 1 million followers by quote-retweeting the original announcement and adding his own message. In his tweet, he wrote: “COMMENTARY TRACK APPROACHES! Sorry it took a minute but it’s a good one I think.”
The director’s commentary comes exactly two months after Glass Onion debuted on Netflix. The film reportedly broke the Nielsen streaming record in the U.S. for the most-streamed movie in a week, having amassed 2.89 billion viewing minutes in its first week on the platform.
The sequel to the 2019 murder mystery Knives Out stars a new cast of characters aside from Daniel Craig’s fan-favorite detective Benoit Blanc. In it, Blanc is invited to a murder mystery party on a private Greek island hosted by tech billionaire Miles Bron and, predictably, chaos ensues.
IGN’s 9/10 review of Glass Onion gave the sequel high praise, saying it “improves upon virtually every aspect of its predecessor and delivers a big, bold, funny, angry, timely, and timeless whodunit,” thanks to “an air-tight script that targets the absurdity and stupidity of the one percent.”
It’s not the end of the Knives Out franchise, either — Blanc and his instantly recognizable accent are slated to return to Netflix for a third film in the future thanks to the company’s $450 million deal to acquire two sequels, with Johnson also set to return for the next installment.
