New Call of Duty coming in 2024 – and it’s not coming to PlayStation

Activision has announced a brand new Call of Duty game, only this one isn’t coming to consoles, PC, or mobile. Amid the controversy surrounding Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard – and specifically Sony’s objections to the takeover – Activision has confirmed plans to release a brand new Call of Duty game in 2024. The twist, however, is that the upcoming Call of Duty release is actually a board game developed by Arcane Wonders.

According to Activision, Call of Duty: The Board Game will combine “strategy, tactical planning, and combat to create an intense and immersive gaming experience”.

“Players take on the roles of elite soldiers, battling against each other in intense, fast-paced action set in the iconic maps from the Call of Duty video games,” reads the official description.

“The original game will feature stunning artwork and high-quality components, including miniatures of the iconic soldiers and weapons from the Call of Duty franchise.”

Launching at an unspecified time in 2024, the upcoming board game will include maps, scenarios and gameplay modes inspired by the video game series.

Judging by the description, it looks like the Call of Duty board game will contain co-operative and competitive elements.

Arcane Wonders CEO Bryan Pope talks about bringing the “competitive frenzy of COD to game night”, while the official description mentions team-based objectives.

Fans will be able to pre-order Call of Duty: The Board Game when the Kickstarter campaign goes live later this autumn.

There’s currently no word on price, or whether the Kickstarter campaign will contain stretch goals to unlock more scenarios and components.

Either way, we’d be shocked if the Call of Duty board game doesn’t smash its funding goal, so expect to see COD hit the shelves in a brand new format next year.
