New Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Trailer Features Frenetic Combat, Familiar Faces
Team Ninja’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms-themed action game Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty looks to pick up where Nioh left off, offering weighty Sekiro-like combat with a dash of the usual Souls series tropes. A new trailer shows off the narrative side of the game, with familiar faces from other Romance-themed games like Dynasty Warriors making an appearance.
According to the trailer, the conflict of the game revolves around a substance called “Elixir,” which could be used to awaken sleeping dragons across Han-era China. Similarly, many of the game’s figures want to collect Elixir in order to achieve immortality. If it’s anything like the Spirit Stones from the excellent Nioh 2, it’s probably the kind of immortality that you wouldn’t want anyway–that of the demonic variety.
From what we’ve seen, Wo Long is definitely cut from the same cloth as Team Ninja’s Nioh series, but there are a number of major changes, such as a new emphasis on a Sekiro-style posture bar. Like Nioh 2, it will allow you to create your own character, and it will feature an ornate loot system. Team Ninja has said that it will be even more difficult than the Nioh series, so definitely adjust your expectations before jumping in.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 3, 2023. It will come to Xbox Game Pass on day one, so if you’re a subscriber, you should give it a chance if you’re interested.
