Newcastle cut ‘transfer budget to just £75m’ as Howe forced to find bargains

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe may not be able to sign all the players he wants this summer with his summer budget reportedly cut down to just £75million, despite leading the club to Champions League qualification. The Magpies were the surprise package this past campaign with Howe’s side finishing with the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League.

Their dominant performance at St James’ Park ultimately helped them finish inside the top four for the first time in 20 years. It also comes barely 18 months after the Saudi-backed owners completed their takeover of the club with around £250m already spent on new signings.

Even more investment will be needed to bolster Howe’s squad next season as they make their long-awaited return to Champions League football. It’s no secret that Newcastle want to improve their options in midfield with Howe lacking in that department.

But there are other areas the Newcastle boss has his eyes on heading into the summer transfer window. However, he may find it difficult to get everything he wants this summer with the Daily Mail claiming Newcastle have a relatively small budget.
