Newcastle ‘make Adam Webster transfer enquiry’ as two new defensive targets identified
Newcastle have launched a shock enquiry from Brighton centre-back Adam Webster, reports claim. The Seagulls defender’s performances in recent weeks upon return from injury are understood to have impressed England manager Gareth Southgate, who is taking notes ahead of this year’s World Cup in Qatar in December.
Webster was on target in his side’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea last week at the Amex Stadium.
Yet it wasn’t just his goalscoring touch that caught the eye. His passing out from the back – with both feet – earned praise from the likes of Jamie Carragher and Graham Potter.
The former Bristol City man arrived on the south coast back in August 2019 for a fee of £20m but now Brighton could be forced to fight off interest.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Newcastle have launched an enquiry for the player.

Eddie Howe ideally wants to add players to his squad that have already played in the top-flight before, much like Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.
The Daily Mail are also reporting that Newcastle are interested in signing Nat Phillips from Liverpool.
The centre-back was the subject of an offer from Watford earlier in the window.
PSV Eindhoven were also keen on signing Phillips but the Dutch side have failed to make any progress.
