Newcastle set to unearth latest wonderkid with Salzburg ace excited by interest

Newcastle could be set to bring another wonderkid to the Premier League by raiding Red Bull Salzburg for a player who has already underlined his desire to try his luck in England. The Magpies have been using their lucrative Saudi backing to improve their squad this summer, with the likes of Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes among the club’s newest recruits.

Newcastle are not expected to stop there, though, as Eddie Howe looks to add further quality to his ranks ahead of their return to the Champions League next season. They are said to be keeping tabs on Salzburg defender Oumar Solet, who is thought to be attracting major interest from a host of European clubs ahead of next season.

The likes of Inter Milan and Torino have been credited with a desire to land the versatile defender, who made 33 appearances for Salzburg in all competitions last season. However, it seems as though he would prefer to join the Magpies in order to test himself in the Premier League after telling the Daily Mail that he would welcome such a move if the opportunity arises.

“I have a lot of ambitions, to be honest,” said Solet. “I’m just on my way. for sure the Premier League excites me a lot. I feel it’s a league that I can perform in really well and it can bring me to the top. It’s probably the best league in the would. I feel if I have the chance it’s going to help make me become the top player I want to be.

“That’s exactly what I need for the next step. I’m a challenger, a competitor, a winner. I have big ambitions in football and outside football. I want to be a really big player. I really want to look at myself in 20 years and be proud of what I did. Let’s see what happens and I will give 100 per cent with any team I play with.

“I’m the type of guy who wants to win everything. I know individually what I can bring but I know how to support my team-mates. This is something I am really proud about. I still need to improve but I fee I’m in a good way of doing that.”

Solet went on to explain that he is not allowing the speculation around his future to disrupt his preparations for the campaign ahead, saying: “I know people are talking about the interest in me at the moment, but I don’t really pay attention to it. I just want to be focused on my game because that’s where I’m at the best.

“I try to ignore all the things off the pitch, but obviously it’s a pleasure to get some interest from other teams because it means I’m doing a great job. It makes you happy but it’s not the end but I need to keep working hard.”

It seems as though Solet, who remains tied down to Salzburg until the summer of 2025, is backing himself to be a roaring success in the Premier League if he ends up joining Newcastle in the near future. However, only time will tell if the Magpies will eventually manage to snap him up ahead of the competition before the transfer window slams shut.
