Newcastle’s blistering XI if Mauro Icardi, Phillipe Coutinho and four other players join

Newcastle are now one of the richest clubs in world football. There was joy and jubilation on Tyneside on Thursday, when the Premier League confirmed in a statement that ownership had changed hands. And a summer spending spree is now possible.

No more will they have to contend with Mike Ashley. Instead, it’s Mohammed bin Salman who will try and bring back the glory days.

In the wake of the announcement, Newcastle have been linked with several players.

The Telegraph say Burnley’s James Tarkowski is under consideration, as well as Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.

And Estadio Deportivo have claimed they’re interested in Mauro Icardi, Philippe Coutinho, Keylor Navas and Nabil Fekir.

So Express Sport will now take a look at how the Toon would line up with these six players on board.

Defence: Manquillo, Lascelles, Tarkowski, Ritchie

If Newcastle were to land Tarkowski, they’d be obtaining a big presence at the back.

And, given their frailties in that position, the arrival of the Burnley star is certainly needed.

The rest of Newcastle’s defence would roughly stay the same if the new owners saved their cash for attacking talent instead.

So that means Jamaal Lascelles at centre-back.

And that would also mean Newcastle continuing to use Javier Manquillo and Matt Ritchie at right-back and left-back respectively.

Midfield: Willock, Coutinho, Fekir

Now for the midfield.

Joe Willock has been sensational ever since moving from Arsenal and he’d retain his place in midfield.

And they could try to blitz opponents but using Philippe Coutinho and Nabil Fekir in the advanced positions.

Coutinho has toiled at Barcelona but showed at Liverpool just how brilliant he can be.

And Fekir has been a steady performer for Real Betis and Lyon in recent years, previously coming close to moving to England with Liverpool in 2017.

Attack: Lingard, Icardi, Saint-Maximin

Newcastle won’t be losing Allan Saint-Maximin if they surround him with talent.

He’s been the main shining light of the Steve Bruce era and deserves to be surrounded with superstars, rather than always having to pull something out of the bag.

Lingard showed at West Ham last season how good he can be on the wing, so it’s possible Newcastle would use him there.

Then, up top, Icardi would leapfrog Callum Wilson in the No 9 role.

The Argentina international may possibly leave PSG for the Premier League, especially now the Ligue 1 titans have Lionel Messi.
