Nick Kyrgios and Piers Morgan tear into Megan Rapinoe over viral video clip

Nick Kyrgios has joined Piers Morgan in criticising women’s football star Megan Rapinoe after a viral video resurfaced on social media. The USA winger and her team-mates were sent crashing out of the Women’s World Cup on Sunday after a penalty-shootout defeat to Sweden.

Rapinoe, 38, had to make do with appearances from the bench at this year’s tournament. But she was one of the sport’s biggest names four years ago, when she played a starring role in the USA’s World Cup triumph.

The OL Reign star sparked controversy in the wake of the victory, however. Attending the ESPYS Awards in Los Angeles back in 2019, she was caught on video failing to acknowledge a fan.

Rapinoe signed the youngster’s football but didn’t make eye contact, and even looked the other way when handing it back.

At the time, Morgan called her an ‘arrogant piece of work‘, and the Arsenal fan was once again riled up when the footage resurfaced this week. “Doesn’t even look at him,” he wrote on Twitter. “Diabolical arrogance.”

This time, former Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios waded in by quoting Morgan’s tweet and adding: “Hahahahahaha one thing me and Piers agree on.”

“I don’t miss the sport at all,” he said. “I was almost dreading coming back a little bit. But it’s my job. The thing about tennis is the tour is so vigorous.

“There are tournaments week in and week out, you kind of don’t have time to reflect on anything you’ve done. I’ve had so much time to sit back and be forced to look at everything I did last year. I wanted to do more.”
