Nick Kyrgios booed by Cincinnati Open crowd for swearing at his box and whacking ball away

Nick Kyrgios was booed by the crowd at the Cincinnati Open after he hit a ball into the stands when getting broken in the second set. The world No 28 led Alejandro Davidovich Fokina by a set and a break when he lost his advantage in the second, having sworn to his coaching box while facing a series of break points in the fourth game.

Kyrgios was leading Davidovich Fokina by a set-and-a-break when the world No 37 managed to set up three break points on the Aussie’s serve at 1-2 in the second set. The first was saved by a 96mph winner but the 27-year-old grew tetchy and started voicing his frustrations at his box.

As the break points kept on coming, he could be heard muttering to his team and asking them to “f******” cheer him on. But their support didn’t have the desired effect and the Spaniard managed to break following an error from the Kyrgios racket.

It prompted the world No 28 to take a ball out of his pocket and smash it into the crowd as he continued chuntering towards his box, earning him a series of boos from the crowd on the main court at the Western & Southern Open.
