Nick Kyrgios gets 9 Pokemons tattooed on his back as fans gotta spot ’em all
Nick Kyrgios has been keeping busy after being forced to pull out of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles as he continues his injury break. The Australian has played just one match this year after undergoing knee surgery and picking up a new wrist injury. And he used his time in LA to get a huge tattoo of nine Pokemon characters across his entire back.
Kyrgios has barely played this year, as he pulled out of the Australian Open right at the start of the season to have arthroscopic knee surgery. He finally returned to competition on the grass courts of Mallorca but lost his only match and picked up a new injury that forced him out of Wimbledon.
It remains to be seen when the 28-year-old will be able to return to competition as he most recently had to withdraw from the UTS exhibition tournament and instead turned up to coach world No 10 Frances Tiafoe. He is still signed up for next week’s Washington Open but is in doubt given his ongoing injury struggles.
In the meantime, Kyrgios visited a tattoo artist in LA to get a huge piece depicting nine Pokemon creatures across his back. On Instagram, @gangatattoo shared the process of inking the world No 35 and revealed that it took just an hour to complete the outlines.
Eagle-eyed fans will spot Charizard in the top left corner with Gyarados at the base of Kyrgios’ neck, while Lapras is in the top right corner. Blastoise is the feature of the piece, depicted right in the centre of the Australian’s back with Alakazam to the left and Mewtwo to the right.
Snorlax is at the bottom, with Gengar just above to the left and Dragonite just above to the right. Neither Kyrgios nor his tattoo artist have posted an update since the lines were inked into his back so fans will have to wait to see the Pokemon creatures in their full glory, all filled in.
