Nico Rosberg teases Lewis Hamilton as duo enjoy ‘great revival’ of Mercedes rivalry

Nico Rosberg has poked fun at Lewis Hamilton amid the former Formula One rivals’ current battle in Extreme E. Rosberg and Hamilton are both involved in the racing series, raising awareness of the current global climate crisis.

Rosberg X Racing, led by 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg, is an evolution of Team Rosberg, founded in 1994 by his father.

The former was recently on Sky News to promote Extreme E, which he’s heavily been involved with this year.

“Yeah, Extreme E is a new motorsport series which really is built on this social cause of helping to fight climate change,” Rosberg explained.

“We’re racing around the world in some of the most extreme locations where climate change is also already damaging our environment in the most severe ways.

“For example, we were racing in Senegal the other week, and there the coastline is extremely eroded, and droughts are becoming a bigger and bigger problem and threat.

“It’s so great how we’re using the sport as a vehicle to raise awareness and also support local initiatives to have local impacts in a positive way. This is what I love about this new form of motorsport.”

The Saudi Arabia race was the ‘Desert Prix’ and the Senegal meeting was the ‘Ocean Prix’.

Next up is the ‘Arctic Prix’ in August, taking place in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, where Hamilton will be hoping his team can close the gap on Rosberg.

Hamilton has his own gap to close in the meantime, though, as he currently trails Max Verstappen by four points in the F1 Drivers’ World Championship.

His focus will be on the French Grand Prix this weekend, where he’ll vie to get back on track after disappointment in Azerbaijan.
