The second cour of Nier: Automata Ver1.1a is still in production, so no release date has been announced yet.
So far, the anime adaptation of the popular game seems to be following its general plot, but it is not without noticeable changes. Many new scenes have been introduced, while others from the game have been removed, condensed, or altered. Also, significant differences can be observed in certain subplots. As the episodes progress, these deviations are becoming more apparent, which raises questions about how much the anime will diverge from the original game. Despite the variations in subplots and even the portrayal of certain characters, the overarching conclusion is likely to remain consistent or at least highly similar.
Nier: Automata Ver1.1a’s broadcast was delayed twice due to production issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The anime got its first delay after the third episode, followed by a second delay after the eighth episode. The final four episodes were eventually broadcast consecutively on July 23.
