Nintendo Has Unveiled a Real-Life Set of Mario’s Iconic Boots to Celebrate Mario Day

March 10 has been forever crowned as Mario Day, and in 2023 Nintendo has decided to celebrate in style by unveiling a real-life set of the iconic plumber’s brown boots at the Nintendo Store in New York.

The boots – pictured below – were first teased by a very excited Shigeru Miyamoto during yesterday’s Super Mario Bros. Movie Direct, and frankly, his excitement is understandable.

Mario has been wielding his heavy boots to devastating effect ever since the Italian plumber first burst onto the video game scene in the 1980s. With them, he has vanquished countless enemies, protected the Mushroom Kingdom, and travelled to strange new realms. You would struggle to find a more storied set of digital – and now physical – footware.

Yesterday’s Direct saw the release of the third and final trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which showed Luigi suspended above lava, before showing a spectacular battle taking place on the hallowed racecourse of Rainbow Road.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to release on April 5, and will see Chris Pratt take on the role of the titular hero as he faces down the menace posed by Jack Black’s Bowser. Stick with IGN to stay up to date with all of the biggest plumber-related news in the runup to release.
