Ever since Elon Musk took over the microblogging application Twitter, the place has been in turmoil with new and weird changes taking place every other day. The recent is that there’s a limit to reading posts on Twitter per day. This has made many users unsatisfied with Twitter and Meta’s Instagram has been working hard to come up with a Twitter Clone app so that users have an option to switch from Twitter. Now, things are about to get real as Instagram’s Twitter Clone App named ‘Threads’ is finally launching tomorrow, that is on July 6.
Ahead of the launch, here’s what we know about the Meta Owned Platform.
Threads App
The Threads app is currently available for pre-saving on the Apple App Store and is visible in Google Play Store as well as Apple Store in Europe. The screenshots in the App Store preview look like the Twitter interface, showing a thread with a heart (like), speech bubble (reply) two arrow loops (repost to your own feed), and paper plane (share elsewhere/directly) icons as well as like and reply counters.
There is also a preview of a reply limiting function that divides the potential audience for an individual “New Thread” into anyone, “Profiles you follow” and “Mentioned only”.
The application is connected directly to Instagram as the app store shows its name as “Threads, an Instagram App” and users will be able to log in using their Instagram credentials and handle and choose who to follow on Threads from the list of the people they already follow on Instagram.
Some earlier reports which show the codename of the Threads app to be “Project92” claim it will be a centralized main feed, and users who are already blocked on Instagram will remain blocked by those accounts on the new platform. Meta has also been working on getting high-profile users on board for the launch.
This will be an ideal resolution for those Twitter users who are unable to understand Mastodon and are still waiting for a Bluesky invite code or can’t face the idea of rebuilding their entire network of followers and followers from scratch on a new platform.
The launch of ‘Threads’ is near and Instagram is building anticipation in other ways as well. New York Times Mike Issac demonstrates typing “threads” into the Instagram search page brings up a ticket emoji, which you can tap to generate your own personal countdown ticket that shows we’re just a day away from the launch. The launch time is 10 AM ET on the 6th of July 2023.
The spinning ticket icon has a QR Code that connects to threads.net which is an online homepage for the brand-new social media platform.
Meta is doing everything it can to make “Threads” a fierce competitor to “Twitter”. One of Meta’s top execs showed a glimpse of Threads during the company’s first all-hands meeting that took place in Menlo Park earlier this month. The new app will show a collab between Instagram and Twitter and will include ActivityPub. The official news about the Threads launch is going through turmoil on Twitter as it is blocking access to tweets for unregistered users as it continues to put efforts into cracking down on scrapping off data from the platform. Twitter has also announced a limit on the number of posts a user can access in a day.
The launch is just a day away so, we will get to know more about the features of the Threads app tomorrow.
