No, Xbox 360 Marketplace Isn’t Closing In May

Last night, there was growing concern Microsoft was closing down the Xbox 360 marketplace for good, possibly as soon as May. But those worries can apparently be put to rest.

It all started with people–like Twitter user Wario64–noticing an Xbox Support page showing an Xbox 360 marketplace update article. It read: “We will be closing the Xbox 360 marketplace over the next year, so we encourage you to purchase any 360 games or DLC by May 2023.”

However, Gematsu shortly thereafter contacted a Microsoft spokesperson, who confirmed this article was posted in error. The marketplace will not close down in May.

Microsoft will be removing 45-plus old games and DLC from the Xbox 360 marketplace later this month. The purge will begin on February 7 and includes games like Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Mass Effect 2. That said, some of these titles will still be available to purchase on newer Xbox consoles. And people who previously purchased said games will still be able to download them in the future.

Speaking of games leaving a service, here are all of the titles being removed from Xbox Game Pass in February. The list includes Infernax, Recompile, and CrossfireX: Operation Catalyst.
