Nothing Phone (2) launch reportedly in the works, will be “more premium” than Phone (1)
Speaking to Inverse, Pei confirmed that the company is looking at the US as a priority market for the launch of the Nothing Phone (2). While this does not necessarily mean that the Nothing Phone (2) will not come to India, it does suggest that the US will be among the first markets to get the phone. To recall, the Nothing Phone (1) was never officially released in the US. “We decided to make the U.S. our No. 1 priority in terms of markets,” Pei told Inverse.
“We couldn’t do it earlier because we were only in our second year and our hands were tied building the team as we were building the products. Now as we’re on a more solid footing, we can take a step forward,” Pei added.
The Nothing Phone (1) was the debut smartphone from the startup and it turned quite a lot of heads for its transparent design language. This design philosophy can also be seen in the company’s other products such as the Ear (1) and Ear (stick).
While Pei confirmed that the Nothing Phone (1)’s successor will be called the Nothing Phone (2) and that it will launch in 2023, we don’t have an exact launch date yet. We also don’t have any specific details about the phone’s design or its specifications. “Should I just send you the Phone (2) renders?” Pei joked to Inverse’s Raymond Wong. “That would destroy the launch. Maybe go to Midjourney and have [it] imagine something.”
Nothing Phone (2) will be more premium than the Phone (1)
While Pei was careful not to reveal anything specific about the upcoming Nothing Phone (2), he did reveal that the phone will be “more premium” than its predecessor and that software will be a big focus area. By premium, Pei seems to suggest that the Nothing Phone (2) will offer flagship-grade specifications and a higher price tag compared to the Phone (1). However, the Nothing CEO is not calling the Nothing Phone (2) a flagship because “that would mean the Phone (1) was not a flagship.”
Now that Pei has confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) launch is officially in the pipeline, we should hear more about the phone’s design and specifications in the coming months. We should also get a better idea about the company’s plans to launch the device in India.
