Nothing Phone (2) not coming anytime soon, says Carl Pei – Times of India
It has been five months since Carl Pei‘s Nothing launched its first smartphone, the Phone (1), and if you were waiting for a mid-cycle refresh, a “Phone (1)T,” a trend Pei started a while ago, during his time at OnePlus, then you in for some disappointment, as the next smartphone, supposedly the Nothing Phone (2) is not coming anytime soon.
“Phone (2) isn’t launching anytime soon,” says Pei in a tweet. Pei says that his company is focused on doing a few things well and will not be releasing a “dozen of products a year like many others.”
Phone (1) and Android 13 are the company’s main focus
Pei goes on to further add that Phone (1) is what the company focused on, and software. Ever since the launch of Phone (1), it can be observed that Pei and his team are spending much of their time fine-tuning the software and lately readying the Android 13, which has been long due.
So, that rules out the possibility of a new Nothing Phone for at least a few next months, mostly not before the Phone (1) completes its first anniversary, as Phone (1) remains the company’s main focus.
Nothing Phone (2) may come to the US
In an interview with CNBC, Pei confirmed that Nothing is in early talks with carriers to launch a new smartphone in the US. “Now we are in discussions with some carriers in the U.S. to potentially launch a future product there,” said Pei.
“The reason why we didn’t launch in the U.S. is because you need a lot of additional technical support, to support all the carriers and their unique customizations that they need to make on top of Android,” Pei said in the interview. Saying further, We felt that we weren’t ready before.”
Nothing claims to have sold 1 million units of their three products, including 500,000 Phone (1) shipments.
