Novak Djokovic aiming to do what Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer never managed to
Novak Djokovic believes he can win all four Grand Slams and the Olympics next year. The Serbian is aiming to achieve what the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer were never able to do and completely clean up in the men’s game.
Djokovic won three of the four slams this year to end 2023 as the world No 1. The only major he didn’t win was Wimbledon, going down in a five-set epic with Carlos Alcaraz.
He ended the singles calendar by winning the ATP Finals last weekend and looks better than ever at the age of 36. One tournament that has alluded him so far in his illustrious career is the Olympic Games.
His old rival Nadal won gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, when Djokovic picked up bronze. Like Djokovic, Federer also never won Olympic singles gold, only winning silver in 2012 against Andy Murray, but did have doubles success in Beijing alongside Stan Wawrinka.

Djokovic thinks he can not only win at Paris in 2024 but also feels he has what it takes to complete a calendar Grand Slam alongside it. He told Marca: “Was it realistic to think five years ago, or even one or two years ago, that in 2023 I would win three of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year?
“I don’t think people thought it was possible. I know myself and I know that if I feel good physically and mentally I can do it.
I don’t want it to seem disrespectful towards my rivals, I am perfectly aware that there are thousands of players fighting for the same goal but I know who I am and I believe in myself.”
Roland Garros will host the tennis at next summer’s Olympics, two months after the French Open. Djokovic won for the third time in his career in Paris this year and is looking forward to the challenge 2024 will bring.
He added: “It’s going to be a strange feeling for me to play the Games at the Roland Garros. It will be similar to the feeling I had in 2012, when it was at Wimbledon.
“I think it was the first and the last time it was played there with coloured shirts and not the white ones. The Games are a very special competition.
“I love the Olympic village, I love the opening ceremony, the feeling of representing my country in the most important event in the world of sport. It is not an easy tournament for tennis players because we have a very tight schedule.
“From Roland Garros we go to grass and then again to clay. Then comes hard court in a short period of time, but I’m ready for the challenge. I hope to be healthy enough to compete in Paris at my best level and try to win the Olympic gold.”
