Novak Djokovic fined for smashing racquet during Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz | Tennis News – Times of India

Novak Djokovic, the 23-time Grand Slam winner, has been imposed a significant fine for his racquet-smashing incident during the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz.
During the fifth set of his match against the 20-year-old Spaniard on Sunday, Djokovic, unable to break Alcaraz’s serve, lost his own service game and displayed his frustration by forcefully smashing his racquet against one of the wooden net poles, resulting in a visible dent.
Umpire Fergus Murphy swiftly issued Djokovic a warning for violating the code of conduct.

Consequently, the seven-time Wimbledon champion was fined £6,117, which will be deducted from his runner-up prize money of £1.175 million.
World number one Alcaraz capitalized on the situation and went on to secure a hard-fought 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory after an intense four hours and 42 minutes.
The defeat at the All England Club denied Djokovic a 24th Grand Slam title and brought an end to his unbeaten streak at the Centre Court.

During the final on Sunday, Djokovic received two code violations. The first violation occurred when the shot clock reached zero before Djokovic hit his serve.
Speaking about his two code violations, Djokovic said, “There’s not much to talk about that. Second one (second code violation) was frustration. I had break points in the second game. Yeah, just tough, tough couple of points.”
The Serbian tennis great was disqualified from the 2020 US Open during his round-of-16 match, after he struck a ball out of frustration, which unintentionally hit a line judge in the throat.
