Novak Djokovic has returned to the tennis court ahead of the Australian Open, according to his brother Djordje. The tennis ace was put in a state-run immigration facility last week after Australia Border Force had cancelled his visa following his arrival in Melbourne. But on Monday, a court overturned that decision.
Djokovic touched down in Australia last Wednesday but was hauled before border officials, who deemed that the medical exemption he had obtained to play as this year’s first Grand Slam was invalid.
He appealed the decision and had been awaiting Monday’s court case, where Judge Anthony Kelly decided officials had not followed correct procedures.
Djokovic was subsequently released from his detention and is now set to undertake preparations ahead of next Monday’s Australian Open start.
“A few moments ago he trained,” Djordje told reporters at a press conference in Serbia on Monday afternoon. “He was on the tennis court.
“He went to Australia to play tennis – to try to win another Australian Open and win a record that he has been chasing for so many years [to win 21 Grand Slam titles].

And Djordje was quick to thank everyone who played a part in the events which led to the visa cancellation decision being reversed.
“I would like to thank people across the world who have organised,” continued Djordje. “We have seen wonderful scenes.
“The truth and justice have come out. We want to thank the justice system of Australia.
“We would like to thank the judge, Kelly, for approving this case. He did it very neutrally and paid attention to detail.
“He looked at every aspect and fact – from the moment Novak applied for the visa and was harassed and detained and taken to the court case.
“The situation is conflicting – it is very difficult. I would like to thank them for being professional and fair. I’m sure they were under pressure. The whole world watched it.
“We would like to thank everyone who broadcast this hearing and translated this hearing so everyone in Serbia could watch and follow proceedings.
“Everything has been completed and Novak has been freed.”
