Top Pick – All-Rounder

Pre-Match Analysis:
New Zealand has already qualified for the upcoming 50-over World Cup which is to be played in India in October-November later this year. They have released their premier players Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Devon Conway, and Michael Bracewell from the squad to feature in the IPL. Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips will depart for India after the 1st ODI. After his stellar run in domestic cricket, South African-born Chad Bowes earned his maiden New Zealand call-up. Rachin Ravindra comes in as a replacement for Michael Bracewell and is in the line to make his ODI debut. Matt Henry will lead the inexperienced bowling line-up that consists of Blair Tickner and Henry Shipley. Ish Sodhi will serve as their sole spinner. They had lost to India in their previous ODI series 3-0.
Sri Lanka must win this series with a big margin to directly qualify for the World Cup. They are currently placed 10th in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League standings. Following their disappointing show against India earlier this year they have made tough calls on selection and bought back experienced Angelo Mathews leaving out Avishka Fernando and Ashen Bandara. Dasun Shanaka will continue to lead the side in white-ball cricket. Matheesha Pathirana has more chances of making his ODI debut in the series opener.
