Ola S1 Pro electric scooter to get ADAS? CEO Bhavish Aggarwal shares teaser

A suite of cameras and sensors could be added to the Ola S1 Pro electric scooter for it to achieve ADAS features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Avoidance, Pedestrian Detection, etc.

Ola S1 Pro electric scooter could get ADAS in the future

The video clip shows the Ola S1 Pro electric scooter with a camera and a screen mounted onto the handlebar. The equipment itself is the size of an action camera, however, seems to be identifying other vehicles on the road. The imagery coming up on the screen shows yellow box markings for vehicles and blue lines laying out the trajectory of the scooter, possibly based on wheel alignment. Additionally, a front camera mounted right above the MID can be seen in the video.

The equipment has a caution label next to it reading “Don’t Put Pressure”. This camera could be faced towards the rider to enable rider drowsiness detection. The video that has been posted shows that the company is testing the features out in the real world. The CEO has however reserved more information for a tech demo that could come up soon.

ADAS is a relatively new feature for the Indian market. While driver assistance features have been present in high-end luxury cars in the past, a full suite of ADAS was never introduced in India given India’s road traffic conditions. However, in recent years many car makers have started bringing ADAS technologies to India and it has trickled down to even the mid-size sedan segment in India.

Indian manufacturer, Mahindra Automotive, essentially democratised ADAS as the technology debuted in its popular Mahindra XUV700 mid-premium seven-seater SUV. ADAS is now offered by the Honda City, 2023 Hyundai Verna, MG Astor, 2023 MG Hector, 2023 Tata Safari and Harrier, and more. Excitingly, the implementation of ADAS on a two-wheeler has not yet been seen widely and Ola Electric’s move to introduce such a feature could create waves in the industry.
