OnePlus Open first look video shows off complete design, water resistance, and more
OnePlus Open display, hinge technology, and durability details
OnePlus took YouTuber Michael Fisher for a factory tour in Shenzhen, China, where it is manufacturing the OnePlus Open foldable phone. The video revealed various details about the device including the brand’s effort regarding the phone’s durability. The phone could boast a much better, shallower crease than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Google’s Pixel Fold.
The same, almost invisible crease was also seen on past OPPO Find N series foldable but it is now powered by a hinge with just 69 parts, down from 100 on the OPPO Find N2. Lighter alloys are being implemented to make the overall hinge just 13 grams light. The video also details the various durability tests including drop, twist and bend tests which a phone has to pass before entering production.
While no specifics regarding the IP rating of the phone were revealed, the OnePlus Open could boast some sort of protection against water as the phone was shown getting blasted with liquid in a series of waterproofing tests. For comparison, the OPPO Find N2 did not feature any official IP rating while Samsung devices have boasted an IPX8 rating since the launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3.
OnePlus Open is set to make its global debut in India at a Mumbai launch event on October 19th. The phone could undercut the popular Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 in terms of pricing. It would also be the most expensive OnePlus smartphone to date. Further, OnePlus will have pop-ups in various cities across India to showcase the device soon.
