The opening theme song of the Oshi no Ko anime, titled Idol and performed by Yoasobi, has reached the number one spot on the Billboard Global chart (excluding U.S.). Idol has now become the first Japanese song to top the chart.
Yoasobi took to Twitter to express their joy and gratitude towards their dedicated fans. “Idol takes the top spot on the global charts, excluding the United States! We are very happy to hear that this is the first Japanese song to achieve this feat. Thank you very much!”

Furthermore, the song has also secured a spot in the top 10 of the Billboard Global 200 chart, which includes the United States. As of now, it holds the impressive position of number 9 on the chart.
“It has risen back to 9th place on the global charts, including the United States!” Yoasobi wrote on Twitter, also hyping up their appearance at the Head in the Clouds Festival. “In August this year, we will make our first appearance in America at Head in the Clouds LA! We hope to reach even more people.”
This comes after Idol dominated the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart in April. Oshi no Ko also made it to the number one spot on the top anime chart on MyAnimeList shortly after it was released, due to its twists-filled first episode.
The music video of Idol has now reached 140 million views since its release on April 12.
