Overwatch 2 Season 5 Features Fantasy Role-Playing Battle Pass And Events
Blizzard has revealed new details about Overwatch 2 Season 5 ahead of its start on June 12. This new season is themed around fantasy role-playing games, with the battle pass including fantasy skins like the Mythic Adventurer Tracer skin.
Detailed in a blog post, Season 5 is the first season to feature a new story aspect for its battle pass. As you advance through the battle pass, you will unlock story chapters, detailing a role-playing session with Tracer and Orisa, along with other familiar faces. That’s not the only change coming to the battle pass this season. Instead of the Mythic skin being the final reward, premium battle pass owners will unlock a base version at tier 45, with customization options unlocked at tiers 65 and 80.
Blizzard also announced two events that are coming in Season 5: the return of The Summer Games and Mischief and Magic. The Summer Games starts on July 11, marking the return of Lúcio Ball, the fan-favorite soccer-like mode, as well as a new volleyball-like game mode. This event will also feature summer-themed skins, like a Tropical Doomfist skin. Mischief and Magic will bring Overwatch 2’s take on Prop Hunt, as well as more fantasy-themed skins, when it arrives on July 25.
On the competitive front, the new mid-season competitive mode will be Team Queue, which requires you to have a full party of five to play. The catch is that you can have players of any skill level play together, allowing people who might have previously been unable to play together due to a difference in skill to party up.
As for character balance, Mei is receiving changes to her primary fire. It will deal less damage, but will slow enemies even more, getting close to freezing them. When enemies are at full slow, her secondary fire will deal more critical damage, making it a lethal finisher. Junker Queen’s ultimate ability is getting nerfed and Lifeweaver is receiving buffs to both his damage output and healing output.
Overwatch 2 Season 5 launches on June 13. Blizzard recently revealed that the Overwatch 2: Invasion update, which will add story missions to the game, will launch in August.
