Overwatch 2 Season 8 Call of the Hunt release time, date, update patch notes
Overwatch 2 Season 8 is about to be released on PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Titled Call of the Hunt, the colourful new season has a December 5 release date and a 6pm GMT UK launch time. The highlight of the new season is the release of the game’s latest hero character, named Mauga. The new character will be joined by a selection of Beast Hunter Skins, additional Mastery Courses, weapon skins and the Battle of the Beasts game mode.
According to Blizzard, the Battle of the Beasts game mode is a 4-v-4 brawl in which teams take on other players and enemy beasts.
“Fight in a powerful brawl with epic and powerful Grand Beasts in a fun 4v4 PvPvE game mode: The Battle of the Beasts,” reads the official description.
“In a clash of Grand Beasts, protect yours while coordinating with your team to defeat the enemy beast.
“You’ll be able to play Mauga for free as the only tank to play in this mode, or try your hand as one of many other hunter-themed heroes and tear through the Grand Beast’s health while trying to avoid powerful abilities. May the best hunters win.”
As for the new hero Mauga, the Tank character is described as a “fierce tactician” equipped with dual chainguns that can be fired together or individually.
Mauga can use his Incendiary Chaingun “Gunny” to burn enemies and his Volatile Chaingun “Cha-Cha” to perform a critical hit.
His Berserker Passive grants Mauga temporary health whenever he deals critical damage, while Overrun is a charging ability that can’t be stopped by any crowd control abilities.
Finally, his Cage Fight Ultimate traps nearby opponents in a fighting ring, where outside damage and healing can’t penetrate.
Elsewhere, Blizzard will add new Hero Mastery courses for Echo, Genji, Mei, D.Va, and Lucio. The leaderboards will also be reset, while a new Bookmark feature will allow users to mark specific places in the replay time bar for quick viewing.
According to the early patch notes, other new features include the addition of Hard Light weapon skins.
“These sleek designs with custom visual and sound effects can be equipped with any of these heroes’ skins.”
Finally, the new season will usher in the start of the Winter Wonderland festivities, beginning on December 19.
By beating challenges, players can unlock “formalwear skins” for Cassidy or Baptiste, and “cozy Winter Jammies” for Illari. Mei’s Snowball Offensive and Yeti Hunt will also return.
Full patch notes will be revealed shortly, so keep checking back for all the changes coming as part of Season 8.
