Own Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D? Prices are going through the roof

Taking away digital copies will do that

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D prices are pretty insane right now, thanks to an eShop delisting (that might still be resolved eventually) and the impending eShop shutdown.

As DoubleXP points out, the confluence of events has led to a storm of sales for the 2012 3DS port, including “cart only” sales approaching $100. Through our own research, we found pre-owned case-included copies selling for roughly $130 in recent weeks, sometimes more. Sealed copies approach $200. Double XP also highlights that the Metal Gear Solid series as a whole is increasing in price as more franchise games were removed from various digital marketplaces.

This sort of stuff isn’t new for the collectible market in the last few years, which has generally exploded. But the combination of kitsch, it being a port of one of the most celebrated action/adventure games of all time, and it being a decent port at that, all contribute to this being a potentially crucial time to add the game to your collection.

It’s insane that this is where we’re at right now: looking for loose copies of a game that should be available on the eShop. “The age of digital” was supposed to be convenient, but as we’ve seen time and time again via licensing issues and plain old bugs, some games are lost to time unless you have a physical copy. Hopefully this PSA will help someone get a Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D copy who needs one before the situation gets even more dire.
