OxygenOS 14 announced: top features and supported phones
Let’s quickly learn what the OxygenOS 14 update is all about and which are the devices eligible to get it.
OxygenOS 14 features
Trinity Engine
OnePlus says ‘Trinity’ refers to “the close relationship between powerful hardware, intelligent software, and the user experience”. It is a proprietary software platform that consists of 6 optimisations namely:
- CPU Vitalisation for scheduling of CPU resources to prioritise between performance and efficiency.
- ROM Vitalisation for extending the life of storage on your OnePlus phones using techniques like compression algorithms, file defragmentation, and memory acceleration.
- RAM Vitalisation for faster boot time, app startups, switching between apps, and up to 10% overall smoothness in the UI thanks to techniques like I/O Aggregation Technology, App Pre-loading, Memory Zero-waiting, Asynchronous Memory Technology, and Instant Bandwidth Technology.
- HyperTouch for better touch response times and avoid mistouches.
- HyperBoost for enhanced gaming experience with reduced power consumption and heat dissipation thanks to adaptive performance mode and other techniques.
- HyperRendering for frame interpolation in games for computationally enhancing the picture quality beyond hardware limitations.
File Dock
File Dock will be like a sidebar on your OnePlus phone wherein you can save any kind of text, image, links and files and this dock will be accessible everywhere on OxygenOS 14. You just have to long-press to select content from most system apps and third-party apps.
OnePlus says that you can access this saved content on File Dock across other devices like phones, tablets, and PCs too.
Notes 2.0
The OxygenOS Notes app gets the option to change background colour, fonts, font size, etc. You can also add images, and edit notes with underline, strikethrough, split lines, and easy find and search functionality.
Smart Cutout
Like Cutout Tool on iOS, this Smart Cutout on OxygenOS 14 lets you long press on an image and cut a person or pet out of it. You can copy-paste or share the isolated element anywhere now. It is capable of identifying 3 subjects at a time.
Multi-screen Connect 2.0
With this app, you can connect OnePlus phones and tablets with OxygenOS 14, and share items and work across devices. It can even auto-connect previously-paired devices without any manual intervention.
Clone Phone 2.0
You can use this app to sync network, account, and things like the Wallet app content with registered cards, and OnePlus watch settings from the old OnePlus device to the new one.
Security Center and other privacy features
OxygenOS 14 is equipped with Android 14’s Security & Privacy Center (a one-stop-shop for all security and privacy-related settings), protection against illegal attacks, an “Ask every time” permission pop-up for photos and videos, Auto Pixelate for auto pixelation of sensitive information like personal images, contact details and numbers
like credit cards, and a built-in chip for password management via NFC and encryption.
Refined Aquamorphic Design
Fluid Cloud feature in the new Aquarmorphic UI shows notifications within bubbles, capsules, and panels in a “naturally merging and flowing way”.
The UI also consists of new nature sounds, 3 Earth-related AOD modes, and dynamic changing of background colours depending on time, content you are seeing, your interactions, etc.
Among other things, the OxygenOS 14 brings up to 15GB of Google Photos storage accessible through the OnePlus Cloud. So, there are a lot of features to try and experience here.
