The combined Showtime/Paramount+ app – officially titled a very straightforward Paramount+ With Showtime – is officially launching on June 27, Paramount announced today.
At the launch date, Showtime content will be rolled onto the current Paramount+ app, which will be getting a price increase as previously announced, from $9.99 per month to $11.99 per month.
The price of the Paramount+ Essential Plan, which does not include Showtime, will go up from $4.99 to $5.99.
And with the launch of the combined platform, Showtime’s standalone app will be coming to a close. Showtime’s app will be shut down by the end of the year while its linear TV channel will be rebranded, according to Variety.
The combined app will include Showtime series like Yellowjackets, Dexter, and Billions, along with Paramount’s IP like the hit Yellowstone franchise, Nickelodeon, live sports, and films like the Scream series. It’s only the latest consolidation attempt made in the streaming landscape.
The Paramount+ With Showtime launch announcement comes just a day before HBO Max officially rebrands as Max, combining HBO and other Warner Bros. content with Discovery+. Disney, meanwhile, recently announced that Hulu and Disney+ will get a combined app of some form, although details on that are still forthcoming.
Prior to the merger, Paramount+ had already started making cuts to the content on its app. Earlier this year, Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone reboot was removed from the platform, along with several other shows including American Gigolo and the Let the Right One in series. Showtime was also hit with layoffs around that same time.
