Piers Morgan sends angry message to Cristiano Ronaldo after Man Utd star’s brace v Arsenal

Cristiano Ronaldo’s first Premier League goals at Old Trafford for Manchester United since his second debut against Newcastle in September consigned Arsenal to a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford on Thursday. And Piers Morgan aired his annoyance on Twitter – by posting a photo of him and the striker together with the caption ‘We’re so over’.

Ronaldo put United 2-1 to the good shortly after half-time in what looked like United’s first home win in the league since September 11.

However, a Martin Odegaard leveller just 90 seconds later made for an interesting finale.

Yet when the Norwegian fouled Brazilian midfielder Fred in the box, Ronaldo stepped up to the plate to give United all three points.

It signalled United’s first win in the league in over a month and has given the club a real confidence boost in the hunt for European football.

And having halted Arsenal’s fine spell of form to take the Red Devils to within just two points of their opponents, Morgan aimed fire at Ronaldo by claiming their relationship was over.

However, the Newcastle-born caretaker manager shockingly announced his resignation from the club with Ralf Rangnick’s appointment around the corner – ending a 15-year spell at the club across various capacities.

“Michael leaves with the sincerest thanks and best wishes of everyone at Manchester United after 15 years of exceptional service to the club as a player and as a coach,” director John Murtough said.

“While we are sad to see him go, we respect and understand Michael’s decision.

“He will always be known as one of the finest midfielders in the history of Manchester United, and, more recently, as an excellent coach who has worked tirelessly under two managers to help develop the strong squad which Ralf will now take charge of.

“We are grateful for the steady leadership Michael has shown through this period of managerial transition, and, while he is now stepping away from day-to-day involvement, he will always be welcome back as a legend of the club.”

United’s next game is a home tie against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
