PlayStation 5 Pro Specs Surface Online Including 8 Core, Custom Zen 2 CPU, RDNA 3 GPU and More

Sony’s PlayStation just released a new variant for their current-gen console, the PlayStation 5. This new variant brings some design changes and an attachable disc drive. However, it still comes with the same capabilities and performance as the original PS5 and isn’t a pro version by any means. This has got players wondering whether a pro version of the PS5 is actually in the works and what specs it might boast, and looks like we may have an answer.

Through the latest X post (formerly Twitter) by a popular hardware and tech analyst account, RedGamingTech (via WccfTech), some specifications about the upcoming console have surfaced online. According to the details provided in the post, players can expect the PS5 Pro to ship with a custom 8-core Zen 2 CPU, which will run at the lower end of 4GHz. The GPU will be a 60 compute units RDNA 3 Hybrid, that will run a 2500-2800MHz.

Furthermore, the RAM will be 16GB GDDR6 running at 18000MT/s. There might also be a 2/4GB DDR5 RAM to handle the operating system, with a potential performance boost for the Tempest Engine. It’s worth noting that the clock speeds are not finalised until the retail version. Currently, several PS5 Pro variants are in testing.

Many players expressed their dissatisfaction in the comment section of the post, questioning Sony’s decision to stick with the Zen 2 CPU. Some wished they had opted for Zen 3 or Zen 4 instead. According to RedGamingTech, Zen 4 was considered but ultimately, Zen 2 was chosen, possibly because Zen 4 might not have been ready in time, could require more effort for backward compatibility, and Zen 2 was deemed sufficient to meet their goals of higher resolution and improved ray tracing. It’s important to note that this information is not from an official source, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
