PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass Subscription Growth Has Slowed Down Due to New Game Releases

Most gaming platforms have their own subscription services, through which players can receive exclusive discounts, special offers and even free titles. The most popular of these subscription services are the Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscription. However, it seems like these two services haven’t experienced much growth in subscriber base in recent times.

PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass Subscription Growth

Mat Piscatella, a video game industry analyst at Circan has brought us the numbers to show that these subscription services aren’t really growing, as spotted by Metro Games Central. According to one of his recent tweets, Circa Games Market Dynamics report shows that subscriber spending in April 2023 is only 2% higher than what it was in April 2022 in the United States. This shows us how these game subscription services seem to be struggling to find new subscribers.

Furthermore, Piscatella also tells us that while “game subscription spending has stalled,” the performance of new premium releases in 2023 is “exceptionally well” in terms of sales. He lists outs The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as one of the new premium releases that have been selling a lot of physical copies as well. Piscatella concluded by stating that this “should be an interesting week ahead.”
