PM, President laud wrestler Ravi Dahiya for winning silver medal at Tokyo Olympics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind lauded Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya for winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Dahiya on Thursday became the second Indian wrestler to win a silver medal at the Olympic Games after he lost the men’s freestyle 57kg title clash 4-7 to reigning world champion Zavur Uguev.

The PM pointed out Dahiya’s fighting spirit and tenacity, while President Kovind joined in on the congratulations, saying India is proud of the wrestler, calling him a ‘true champion’.

“Ravi Kumar Dahiya is a remarkable wrestler! His fighting spirit and tenacity are outstanding. Congratulations to him for winning the Silver Medal at #Tokyo2020,” Modi tweeted. India takes great pride in his accomplishments, he added.

“India is proud of Ravi Dahiya for winning the wrestling Silver at #Tokyo2020. You came back into bouts from very difficult situations and won them. Like a true champion, you demonstrated your inner strength too. Congratulations for the exemplary wins & bringing glory to India,” tweeted Kovind.

Modi also lauded the efforts of wrestler Deepak Punia who came close to winning a bronze medal on his Olympic debut. “Deepak Punia lost the Bronze narrowly but he has won our hearts. He is a powerhouse of grit and talent. My best wishes to Deepak for his future endeavours,” the PM said.
