Pokemon: British Man Jailed for Fatally Beating a Neighbour With Pocket Monster Trading Cards

A British man has been sentenced to life in prison after killing his neighbour with a piece of wood and a bag of Pokemon cards.

The man found guilty of this crime is 31-year-old Andrew Hague, who was arrested on August 2, 2022, for fatally beating his neighbour, 50-year-old Simon Wilkinson. The attack took place outside Hague’s flat on Fox Hill Road, Sheffield.

Hague was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 17 years after his case was heard at the Sheffield Crown Court.

According to the neighbours who witnessed the crime, Hague used a bag full of the popular trading cards to beat Wilkinson. He later used a piece of wood to attack Wilkinson’s head, who died at the scene of the crime following fatal injuries.

The neighbours noted Hague’s shouts, which seemed to suggest that Wilkinson had accused him of being a paedophile. “You called me a f****** nonce. Come out here and fight like a man,” said Hague, according to the witnesses (via ITV).

After the attack, Hague told the investigating officers that he “felt bad” for attacking Wilkinson with the bag of Pokemon cards. He further revealed that he later returned to beat him with the piece of wood, as an “act of mercy.”

During the trial, details about Hague’s history with mental health problems were heard by the court. Prior to the killing, the 31-year-old had stopped taking medications, as he took up cannabis. He was also convicted multiple times for violence as well. Before the judgement earlier this week, Hague pleaded guilty to murder in March.
