Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Steal Spotlight In McDonald’s Cards Leak
McDonald’s customers can look forward to a familiar treat as Pokemon returns to the fast-food chain. For years, The Pokemon Company has collaborated with McDonald’s to create promotional Pokemon cards available at select locations. These cards, initially limited to Japan, have become highly sought-after collectibles, often featuring unique symbols. The 2021 McDonald’s X Pokemon promotion witnessed a swift sell-out, with collectors snatching up boxes and reselling them on eBay for hefty prices.
Now, Pokemon fans’ excitement is surging again, as leaked images of the upcoming 2023 Pokemon McDonald’s cards have surfaced. The leak, reported by PokeBeach on July 26, features 15 cards from the yet-to-be-officially-announced promotion, which apparently debuted prematurely in Germany. PokeBeach claims that these leaked cards represent the entire lineup for this year’s McDonald’s Pokemon event. The promotion is slated to kick off in Germany and Austria on July 27, followed by the UK on August 23. Fans in other countries, including the United States, can anticipate the release in August as well.
The full list of the leaked cards includes Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, Cetoddle, Cetitan, Pikachu, Pawmi, Kilowattrel, Flittle, Sandaconda, Klawf, Blissey, Tandemaus, Cyclizar, and Kirlia. Notably, with the exception of Pikachu, all the featured Pokemon hail from the Scarlet & Violet series. Among the 15 cards, six will have a holographic finish: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, Cetitan, Pikachu, and Klawf.
The cards will be distributed in four-card booster packs, accompanied by a “Match & Battle” toy, reminiscent of last year’s McDonald’s X Pokemon promotional event.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet enthusiasts still have a two-part expansion to look forward to. The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero’s first part, The Teal Mask, releases this fall. The Indigo Disk is expected this winter. Players will embark on a journey as an exchange student at the Blueberry Academy, a school beneath the ocean. Additionally, The Teal Mask leads players to Kitakami, where they partake in an annual festival celebrating the revered Heroes of Kitakami alongside students from Naranja and Uva Academies.
