We’ve seen fitness games, brain training games, and even cooking games, but The Pokemon Company’s next app, Pokemon Sleep, aims to turn sleep into a game, with pre-registrations now open on Android devices.
Pokemon Sleep is a sleep-tracking app which measures a player’s sleep pattern in one of three categories: Dozing, Sleeping, and Slumbering, with the type of sleep impacting which five Pokemon will join the main character Snorlax on a particular night. Each cycle lasts a week, with a new Snorlax appearing every Monday.
Each night, the app will assign a sleep score–with a perfect 100 score reserved for 8.5 hours of sleep or more–which will impact the types of Pokemon that join Snorlax the next night. Snorlax can also be fed berries gathered by other Pokemon during daytime hours.
The new Pokemon Go Plus+ device will also be compatible with Pokemon Sleep, with functionality both in this app and in Pokemon Go:
- A Pikachu wearing a sleeping cap will appear as a special sixth party member when the device is connected to Pokemon Sleep.
- The device will track the number of Poke Stops activated with it during Pokemon Go sessions, which will add more berries to the Pokemon Sleep app the next time it’s connected.
Pokemon Sleep was first announced back in 2019, with no details surrounding gameplay given at the time. Those finally came during the February 2023 Pokemon Presents event, along with the reveal of the Pokemon Go Plus+ device.
Pokemon Sleep will be available for free on iOS and Android devices later this year. Android users can pre-register for the app now via the Google Play store.
