Pokémon’s Post-Ash Ketchum Anime Gets First Full Trailer

The Pokémon Company has released the first proper trailer for the post-Ash Ketchum Scarlet and Violet anime.

The 50 second trailer was uploaded to Pokémon’s YouTube channel and shows off more of the two new protagonists, Liko and Roy, alongside their friend Friede and his partner Pokémon Captain Pikachu. Friede was also revealed to be a Pokémon professor in the trailer, though seemingly one with a penchant for flying, as he’s also seen riding on the back of a Charizard through the skies.

A handful of other scenes from the anime are shown, giving fans a better look at the Paldea region from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in all of its animated glory. Some more details were revealed about the two protagonists too, including their motivations for embarking on their Pokémon journeys.

Liko appears to be a determined self-starter, saying during the trailer that she “won’t find anything unless I look for it myself,” while Roy looks to take on the toughest pocket monsters around, saying “I want to challenge the Pokémon from the legends!”

The Pokémon Company revealed in December that Ash would not be returning as the main character of the animated series for the first time in 25 years after finally earning his status as a Pokémon master. It then revealed that, while Ash’s Pikachu was also retiring, the new Captain Pikachu would ensure the mascot’s longevity.

Ash and Pikachu might show up in a cameo at some point, of course, as the show creators love to include throwbacks and references to previous seasons. Fans got emotional towards the end of last season when Misty made a return, for example, and Ash was recently reunited with another old friend from Season 1 too.
