The sequel to Ponnyin Selvan’s OTT rights in India has been bagged by Amazon’s video streaming platform. Called Ponniyin Selvan 2 (PS-2), the movie is all set to release in theatres on April 28th. It will be a follow-up of the original PS movie, which was released last year and did exceptionally well at the box office. The Ponniyin Selvan 1 was the highest-grossing Tamil movie last year, with an income of more than Rs 500 crores. The movie was based on the reign of the Chola dynasty in South India during the 10th century. The film is based on the novel named Ponniyin Selvan which is available in five volumes and was written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. It explores the 10th-century era of South India and narrates the reign of the Chola Dynasty. The novel is about the story of the prince of the Chola kingdom, Arulmozhi Varman, and his journey to reclaim his rightful place as the ruler of the kingdom.

The movie stars a wide variety of actors in lead roles like Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. It further stars Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Sarath Kumar in supporting roles. The movie is produced by Lyca Productions while the music is composed by legendary A.R. Rahman. Moreover, Ravi Varman and Sreekar Prasad are handling cinematography and editing respectively. Both parts of the movie are directed by Mani Ratnam who along with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan co-wrote the film.
